Walking your dog is essential for so many reasons!
Whether or not you have a yard where your dog can run and play, it’s important to walk your dog regularly. Walking your dog is necessary for so many reasons, and you may be surprised to learn that exercise is just one of the many. The following is a list from our veterinarian in North Merrick of just a few of the many reasons why you need to make walking your dog a priority:
#1. Boredom
A bored dog is often a bad dog. When your dog is bored, they are much more likely to bark at every noise they hear, dig around in the trash and destroy your home. Walks are great tools for helping to keep your dog entertained and happy.
#2. Weight Control
Walking is one of the best ways to keep your dog’s weight under control. A dog who is overweight is at a higher risk for many different health problems, including diabetes and heart conditions. The best part is that walking can also help you control your own weight too!
#3. Joint Health
Many dogs experience joint issues that can make it difficult to walk or even stand. However, walking helps to build muscles that support your dog’s joints. Losing weight from walking can also take some of the pressure off of your dog’s joints.
