Does Your Cat Need Baths?

Does your cat need to be bathed?

In general, most cats are very clean animals and they don’t require a whole lot of grooming, especially cats that have short coats. This is why most cat owners hardly ever have to worry about bathing their cats, but there are a few circumstances when your cat may need to be bathed. The following is a list from our veterinarian in North Bellmore of a few reasons why you may need to bathe your cat:

#1. Your cat gets dirty.

While cats are fairly clean animals, sometimes, they get dirty! If your cat gets into something he or she shouldn’t, you may need to give him or her a bath. Don’t expect your cat to be able to get dirt or grime off of themselves!

#2. Your cat can’t properly clean himself or herself.

If your cat has arthritis or is overweight, he or she may not physically be able to properly clean him or herself. If this is the case, you need to bathe your cat every once in awhile to keep him or her clean!

#3. Your cat won’t properly clean himself or herself.

Most cats are clean by nature, but not all cats are. Some cats are taken from their mothers too young and they don’t know how to properly clean themselves, and others just won’t. If this is the case for your cat, you need to bathe him or her.
